Recently I’ve been getting e-mails asking if I’ll be teaching my AwareKnits Eco-Yarn class– where I walk students through making different yarns out of alternative materials, including newspaper– anytime soon again. Unfortunately, time doesn’t allow for me to teach live classes these days, but thanks to the magic of digital cameras I can provide a little how-to goodness to you virtually. So join me this week; hit the recycle bin, and click on the video (below) to learn how to spin old paper into new yarn.

Oh, and once you’ve spun 20 yards or so, give knitting it a try with my Extra! Eco frame pattern. Happy recycling!

I didn't realize how easy that was, Vickie. Can I use my National Geographic stash, too?

    Thanks for sharing!

I was so motivated after I saw your video!  Instead of heading to the craft store for a wheel & dowel, my husband made we one with some extra wood we had.   Cut a 3″ circle & incerted a wooden dowel with a cup hook on the dowel!  Now I am going to try this with plastic grocery bags.  When I get some newspaper I so want to try that too.  I shared your video with friends on the internet and even in Malta my friends are excited about this project.  Thanks for posting your video.
