Free Project Friday: Crop Circles Quilt
November 05, 2010, 09:00 am Posted by needleartsOoooh, it’s Free Project Friday again! I love it. Since it’s Quilt Market & Festival week, how about a super-cool quilt project? And even better, it’s from Asheville’s own talented (and super-cool girl) Jen Swearington.
Jen’s design is from Simple Contemporary Quilts, and as a matter of fact, the Crop Circles quilt itself is hanging in Jen’s super-cool (noticing a trend here?) new shop and studio in West Asheville, Jet Set. All you local folks should stop by—it’s full of Jen’s clothes, accessories, and art quilts, and she held a really fun open house a few weeks ago where we all got to do some screenprinting of our own. (Maybe I’ll show you what I did with my pieces one of these days….) If you’re not in town, don’t despair – check out Jen’s fabulous work at her Etsy shop.
Jen hand-dyes or prints all the silk and bamboo fabric she uses to create her one-of-a-kind wearables. She’s also a nationally recognized fiber artist; her works have been featured in three Quilt National* exhibitions, 500 Art Quilts, the Surface Design Journal, and Fiberarts magazine. She sells her creations at regional art and craft shows and her work is carried in galleries throughout the country; visit jennythreads for more information.
*We’re working on Quilt National 2011 as I type; it will publish next July. Jen won the Award of Excellence in the last biennial show; check it out in Quilt National 2009.
