I have been a silversmith and amateur jeweler for some time, but what I like best about jewelry is making it.  I love the focus that derives from inspiration and I get inspired by the oddest things.  I have a hard time selling it, because my main goal is the creation, not the sale.  I end up with loads of jewelry to switch out and always get tons of compliments, then I am off after the next inspiration!  I gift a lot of it as well and its gratifying to see someone’s eyes light up at an unexpected bit of sparkle and shine.  I would love to win the books (as books are another passion of mine, fiction, non fiction and learning).  Another fabulous source of inspiration and creative thinking!

Oh, wow, I would probably faint dead away with that many idea books. I love making jewelry and having jewelry books because it makes my right brain happy happy to have pretty pretty things around me and keeps my cheap cheap left brain quieter than if I try to buy pieces from a true artist.

I love jewelry for the fact that it is an extension of my love for art. I especially love pieces that have strong, solid form and read as sculpture. I’ve always been a jewelry ‘ho, and have a MIL who’s crafty to the nth degree. I got tired of not being able to share that with her, so this past summer, I picked up a basic jewelry kit at Michael’s and promptly got addicted. I admit it!  I am addicted to beading and finding new unexplored ways to use them.  Most of my inspiration comes from books.  Looking at other artists work is the perfect way to begin.

Wow, what a collection !!! I started making jewllery back in February 2010 after a spell in hospital. I was bored and decided to pop to a craft store, I saw some acrylic beads and after buying them I made some jewellery sets and donated them to the Macmillan Cancer charity. By the time I had finished the sets I was hooked. I set about learning different techniques and materials and that’s what I love about jewellery making, exploring different materials and techniques which allows me to build up a totally eclectic and unique collection of jewellery. Since my acrylic bead days I have learnt wirework, bead weaving, macrame, polymer clay, gemstone and silver and bead stringing, next for me is lampworking, precious metal clay and silversmithing and anything else I can find.

What a wonderful Christmas present this would be.  I know just the person the duplicate copies will go to as well.  Lark is the reason that I make glass beads.  Many many years ago they had not only books but a kit in the catalog that I would get in the mail.  Beads and jewelry are now an obsession.

Awesome. I am a 100% disabled Marine. I started doing lapidary because it kept my hands and mind busy… I have always had an interest in geology and this hobby was a natural progression. To take a hunk of rough stone and shape and polish it into something beautiful to wear is a very very old creative process. I am always learning new techniques and want to learn silver smithing next. I give much of what I make to friends and family and it is always rewarding to hear folks say how pretty a necklace or bracelet is !

Making jewelry gives me the freedom to create art that I can enjoy and display on my own body, or spread it around to others for them to enjoy.

I’m a new student of metal smith jewelry, so I’ve just begun my journey into the (amazing) world of jewelry blogs.  I recognize some of these books from my professors stash, but I don’t own any of my own as yet.  The titles alone have set my fingers tingling to get started making something lol.  I’ve always been fascinated by hand made jewelry which is why I added this class to my art education, though oddly I don’t wear much myself.  I’m thoroughly enjoying the textures & designs I’m learning to create, and just the feeling of creating a wearable piece of art is exciting for me.  I just finished my first self designed piece – a steampunk bracelet.  Though I had problems with the rivets and many other things and it took 2 months to complete, every class was a new adventure for me.

I love Lark Books!  They are such a treasure and such a treat! Not only do they highlight some amazing artists and their art, but they always inspire.  My favorite thing about making jewelry is coming up with a somewhat vague idea and then putting it together, using my brain and body to, in some cases, reinvent the wheel, but organically learning new-to-me techniques gives me such a triumphant feeling.  My favorite part about my finished jewelry is sending it out into the world where hopefully it brings light to the spirit of the person who is wearing it, even if that’s 1/100 as much light as the process brings to my heart and soul, that’s still enough to light up an average city!

There are so many wonderful books here! I started making jewelry because I love wearing it, and making jewelry gifts for others is one of my favorite parts of the holidays. The projects in these wonderful books are tiny works of art!

I love being able to reuse materials, like paper from discarded books, giving it new life in jewelry pieces. Lark books are, by far, my fave craft books! Best instructions of any.

Oh wow this would be great! I would enjoy these books do much! As far as what I like best about making or wearing jewelry, with a house filled with males with the exception of my daughter it is the one thing I have to myself. Or even brief periods of sharing with my four year old girl. It makes me feel a great sense of accomplishment and that I succeed at something web I finish a piece especially when someone says they like what I did. I also like making pieces from my grandmas old jewelry as a part of her is with me when I wear it. The others that I will give out have found a new life. It makes me feel good.

I have done some wire working and love it and when I saw seed bead jewellery, I really thought that I wouldn’t like it to do it. I don’t know what attracted me to start something, but I did. I then bought Maria DeCoster’s book and had never done R angle weave and I actually made the fabulous square ring and it looks great! Am on my third now Always love to try new things. How many times has my mood been set by the jewellery I choose for the day, the evening, the event?  It is forgiving – have I gained or lost weight, my jewellery doesn’t care – I can feel good about myself, raise my mood, have a great conversation starter for those times when I’m feeling less than confident.  I love wering jewellery, for the way it makes me feel but also for how it tends to open the lines of communication with other people no matter where I go!

I love making jewellery for other people more than for myself, because I like to think of the person I’m making for, which informs the piece I’m making, and it’s nice to make something I think they’d like, rather something I’d wear myself. It also lets me use colors I wouldn’t normally use! The jewellery I wear has all been given to me by other people! And each one has a story. That’s what I love most about wearing jewellery. Being a little different and talking to people who ask about where I got it from!

You know, last night I went out and I wasn’t feeling that great about it, so I put on a pair of enamel and wire earring that one friend had made and a PMC bracelet that another friend had made, and one of my own necklaces. Instant attitude makeover–not only did I look a lot more interesting, but I had my friends along with me–at least in the abstract–reminding me that they think I’m fabulous. That’s what I like about wearing (and making) artisan-made jewlery. You carry the maker along with you when you wear it.

Oh my goodness someone’s going to have an entire winter’s worth of wonderful reading.  I don’t know why I like to make/wear handmade jewelry, but I do know I just turned down diamond earrings, and ask my husband to get gift certificates to my favorite suppliers for the amount instead.  Curious what will be under my tree.

I make a lot of custom wedding rings and it is seeing the joy on my clients faces when they pick up their rings that really is exciting for me!  I also love exploring wood as my newest medium.  All those patterns and colors – it’s such a visual feast compared to just gold/platinum/diamonds!

I’ve got several of these on my “someday” book shopping list! As a self-taught-through-books jewelry-maker, this prize would be a spectacular boost to my abilities! My favorite part of making jewelry is giving it to friends and family. It always seems to make them happy – and it justifies my obsession to my husband!

What a fabulous collection of jewelry books!~!~  I swear by some of them.  I am addicted to designing and making jewelry and have been for many years.  Ever since I realized that jewelry didn’t have to be all beads and “pretty”.  I used found objects, findings and parts from vintage and just plain old jewelry. I combine everything to make the style uniquely my own.  My favorite places to shop?  Estate sales, flea markets, garage sales and parking lots (for run over bottle caps and lottery tickets!).  Thanks for publishing such versitile books for jewelry makers.

What I love best about working with metal is being able to take a flat sheet or plain wire and manipulate it into a work of art.  Using a hammer and a torch to transform it is amazing!

My favorite part of making new jewelry is when I have learned a new technique or design method, or when I have figured out something I wanted to do and had problems getting to work.  Other fun times are when I’ve completed a design that is a bit unusual, like a design challenge that focuses on the a connector (toggle or clasp) as a main component.

I love to collect how-tos and design ideas, not to explicity copy anyone else’s work, but for inspiration.

Oh my … I’m drooling. Really glad you didn’t want a comment regarding book most wanted! I admired a woman’s necklace which was the symbol for Venus but with an extra bar to make an equal sign. Years later I met a woman who made silver jewellery. I asked her to make me one. I wanted it a bit different – the circle to be a Mobius strip. She couldn’t do that but she did make the circle non-symmetrical. I love to wear “custom” designs. I also have a broach made to look like a spider (one of my favourite animals).

Aside from the obvious joy of making something beautiful, I enjoy making jewelry for the surprise of the finished product.  You start with an idea but as you progress, the beads may have a different idea that make the process interesting.

This set would expand my horizons as a jewelry artist SO greatly! I began with bead stringing, then moved on to silversmithing, which I love. I love hammering, forging, folding. When I was 10 (we won’t do the math!), my dad bought me a rock tumbler that included jewelry findings to use with the polished rocks.  Dad was an engineer and would bring home rock samples from the field.  I simply loved it and have continued making jewelry ever since, thanks to the encouragement of my wonderful father.  I am now retired and can spend more time making jewelry and have discovered the very best part of it, the most rewarding part … being able to share this knowledge with my grandchildren.   It would be so much fun to go through all these wonderful books with them to learn even more projects to share!

What I enjoy most about making jewelry is the quiet relaxation it brings.

Boy, do I like these kind of giveaways! I am a creative person and am only a beginner in beading. I really like working with stainless steel wire and glass beads. My creative juices start flowing the moment I find something no matter where I find an object. I find them everywhere. (when I go walking, traveling in the car or just browsing a store.) You just never know where you will find that particular found object. I am always thinking or looking for that unusual object to incorporate in my jewelry. I sure hope I win these books cause they would really get me into the spirit to create even more. Thanks for letting me create and create some more.

I have several of the books already, but I could complete my collection AND start the collection of several other friends.  I love the books – great how-tos as well as inspiration.  When I get stuck (in my head of course), I randomly pull out a LARK book to consult.  A few minutes later….off I go to the studio.

Wow! What a Giveaway! What do I love most about making jewelry…how about, why do I make jewelry? I make jewelry because I am drawn to the materials and techniques of the craft and because of its small scale yet sculptural possibilities. I am also interested in jewelry because it is universal–we all have jewelry that is important to us in some way and we can all relate to its significance in our lives, despite our cultural or economic backgrounds. Jewelry is also a way for us to express our individuality and I find that fascinating.

I love making things with my hands. I love the creativity and the push it gives you to think outside your own box. Makes me look at the world in a new way every time I’m shown another way to see something and make something out of it. Where you would look at the world and think something was trash or junk, or see no beauty in it, after having your eyes opened by other artists you realize the beauty and chance to show others the beauty in things that otherwise they too.  I believe it opens the world up for not only me, but for others that see each creation made from common or otherwise what was though useless or trash. Creativity opens up the world not just for me but for others that see each creation an artist creates.

What a very generous giveaway! Oh the new projects and techniques one could learn with this pile of books. I am a beader at heart and a jewelry maker by trade…I tend to make way more than I wear and I also tend to wear the same thing over and over…but I love learning new ways to create!

I like to make one of a kind jewelry, because it allows people to adorn themselves with a piece of portable art.  In a world full of visually sterile objects I like to provide a glimpse of the unexpected.  Also, there’s nothing like the sense of accomplishment I experience when I finish a piece.  But that’s just the icing on the cake.

Jewelry is an essential part of the human being, not only for decoration but for the spiritual and ritual issues and statements. Is magic how we can transform any material in a beautiful piece of art to wear it. That piece have our essence and our love.

i’ve been doing jewerly for a couple years now. i have a adult family home where i have up to six elderly women that live in my home. My husband and i take care of them 24/7. Sometimes they like to make jewerly and it’s a great activity for them. Some more ideas on jewlery would be helpful. And i enjoy creating difference pieces. 38 books would be totally awsome.

I would love to add to my collection with these books.  Being inspired while learning is one of the great things about jewelry making.  Increasing your beading knowledge never ends and this set of books looks like a great array to help with that!

I have a few of these books and I love them.  At this point in time my interests are primarily in metal clay, raku, and beadwork.  Making mineature sculpture in earthen and metal clay is very rewarding.

What a mouth watering giveaway … so generous.  Being a jewelry designer and maker brings peace and joy to my life in this ragged and often sad world.  It is also a way of sharing my creativity with others who wear my jewelry.

I can honestly say that I have self taught myself to make many types of jewelry by using your books. I don’t have all of them and just looking at this lineup makes me wishful! Lark literally has the only book on leather jewelry that I could find anywhere! Making jewelry is what I do. When I realized that I could change the shape of metal it was if I had won the keys to the kingdom! Playing with fire. . . even better.

Fabulous giveaway. What better than to have an entire collection housed in the metals studios for my students to use in their research.

I am a retired luthier’s daughter so it’s somewhat natural that I love to create.  I’ve been making jewelry for several years now, primarily wire wrapping and beadweaving. I stumbled across one of your books in a local craft store and found it to be extremely helpful as I continue to grow and explore other mediums and materials.  What a wonderful array of books in this offer!   I especially love the wood and metal clay books.  Dad would be proud!

This collection of Lark books indulges my sense of curiosity about materials, how they inspire people to make creative and clever jewlery and how the authors have shared their ideas and expertise.

What’s not to love about making jewelry?  It’s creative and mind stretching.  I love learning new skills and expanding how I can make things.  It’s a tie to shared history of adornment when the first person stuck a flower behind an ear and later made a flower out of other materials and stuck it onto clothing.  We feel nice wearing it, nicer if we sell something, and nicer still when someone gets or is given a piece and they tell you how much they love it.  Awesome.

I love making and wearing jewelry, because this is where my passion rests. Every time I make jewelry, I love the challenge fact because I have visualized the piece in my mind before execution even though the piece might develop into an slightly different piece, but always for the better. To have your visions materialize is a beautiful event.
When wearing jewelry, my own or other people’s, I am very sensitive to the energy of the piece, as if I was having a chat with somebody I’ve just met to get to know him/her better. Wearing a piece of jewelry definitely adds to day, and my persona….

My favorite author for business advice is Simon Sinek who wrote: Start With Why.  He basically observes that all businesses know what they do/make, some of them know how they do it, but very few know WHY.  I have been a jewelry designer/maker for 37 years.  My WHY:  I believe strongly in the positive role artists play in society.  I believe in the importance of bringing beauty into the world.

I love so many things about making jewelry from the materials to the tools. What I love about making jewelry most at the moment is it’s therapeutic value. Working with survivors of human trafficking and slavery in India, I’ve seen our jewelry programs transform the lives of these young woman for the better in so many ways. There are so many implications for their future lives, but in the present, I watch them ‘smith calmly and get to that “zen” place where making what is in your mind comes to fruition. It’s a beautiful process, with beautiful results and we ALL are forever changed. Needless to say we all love wearing it! : )

Wow! What a generous giveaway! Lark Books has published some of my favorite seed beading books. I have all of the Masters series and look to them for inpiration quite frequently. What do I love about making jewelry? I love the beginning when the idea has just become an idea, when all of my colorful beads are laid out before me and I know the possiblities are endless.

Over 50 years making jewelry and it is still my passion. My identity is truly tied in to the art. The other half of my brain is devoted to my practice of Psychology. There is some space left for cooking, eating and gardening.

Being a multi- media artist and jewelry designer, I use  vintage, recycled material, PMC silver, gold, and bronze, and printed papers for making beads and statement necklaces. Jewelry is my life, I am in graduate school for metal design and I honestly hope to make adornment my life. I started making jewelry about 10 years ago for my niece when she wanted a cat’s eye bracelet on e…….you know…and her mother could not afford it.  I thought that it would be pretty easy to make.  I can’t wear jewelry except some rings and a watch as long as i take it off after about 4-5 hours.  Needless to say, i loved doing this!  I never really got into jewelry before because i couldn’t wear it, but did lots of other crafts.  Once i made this for my niece she of course wanted more, and then her brother wanted something so that is how i got started.   Wow, how things have changed since then!  This has become my niche, i love to make this stuff even though i can’t wear it.

I love jewelry and always have. I own the Elizabeth Taylor “My Love Affair with Jewelry” coffee table book and I get lost in it whenever I have the time.  Women, beauty and interesting and beautiful  jewelry should be synonymous.  Correctly choosing and wearing jewelry will enhance someone’s appearance and this has been true since ancient times. Think Cleopatra of the Nile and the Pharaohs. What a stellar collection of books!  Would love to have these to share with my students, as I pass on my love of working with metal and gemstones to others.  I think sharing our knowledge – whether through books or in person – is a wonderful way to ensure that the joy of jewelry making continues!

My first jewelry making experience was with Bob Engstrom in Michigan.  I did graduate work in metals there and in Mexico and taught jewelry making for 30 years. As time passed, I petitioned libraries to buy many of these books which I couldn’t afford to buy at the time.  Many, I had to read in bookstores.  My hunger for information and inspiration was not a rare one.  Students lusted to have them on hand.  
I’ve recently returned to work in a Community College.  Its library is badly in need of reference books as it’s in economically-challenged New Mexico.  I’d love to donate this set to their collection.  
Of course, I’d have access to them as well, so I’m not being entirely unselfish.  New Mexico is a state that is filled with people (both Native and Otherwise) who are very interested in Fine Art and Crafts
and students who are strongly motivated to learn.

I personally love designing, making, wearing, showing, and gifting jewelry. I approach my fabrications using both fine and up-cycled metals and materials. I’m currently creating a new body of work approaching small metal and mixed media sculpture in the same manner; with content-driven narratives about human perception to be shown in three parts; “to see”, “to hear”, and “to touch”.

What do I love most about making jewelry? Creating something of such an intimate scale that will be treasured by its wearer. As a student, the more inspiration and resources i can get my hands on, the better.

I have learned some of my jewelry making skills from several of these very same books.  This is a wonderful collection of inspiration to draw from., because I try to learn something new everyday.

I think jewelry has this incredible quality to make the wearer feel happy and safe, it not only modifies physical appearances but also strengthen physiological feelings, giving them confidence. Making jewelry has given me an identity that I was subconsciously reaching toward even as a child.  There is something about the art of decorating one’s body that communicates one’s self where words might fail, and this is what I try to do when I make jewelry.  In addition, when I make a piece for someone else, I try to put some of what I see in that person into the piece.  To me, it is an intimate form of art, and that is why I love it.

Hello. I have been a long-time fan of Lark Books, but I only own one of them. I am a metalsmith and college instructor in the field so having these books as a reference for my students as well as for myself would be an incredibly valuable acquisition. My students really respond to physical books with color images of metalsmithing and jewelry design.

No matter how many Jewelry classes you enroll in you will always need alot of books for reference material. The wonderful things about owning your own books from different artists is that they all have their own way of doing things which allows you to expand your knownledge of doing things in different ways. Sometimes you will be working on a creation and suddenly you think now how did I do that? If you own a reference library you just go search out the information, you don’t have to jump in the car and go to a library or search the net the information is right there at your fingertips.

I got into beading and making jewelry 5 yrs ago Thanks to my step granddaughter. Before then I was an avid quilter.Making jewelry transformed my life completely .It was something I could do while at the hospitals with my husband who had cancer.He loved to lay and watch me work and it gave me great joy.I lost him 2 yrs ago but still continue to make jewelry as an extra income.

For someone to wear a piece of my jewellery makes me so proud, knowing that they might appreciate the same beauty and proportion that I did but don’t know me at all. It’s like sneaking into someone’s garden and planting a beautiful, delicate flower.

Ah, I’m breathless just at the thought of owning these! I’m a jewelry-maker ‘and’ a book nut, so this is just awesome! I’ve been making jewelry since I was a wee one in the 70s (!), out of everything from feathers to chamois leather to crab claws picked up on the beach, to things found in the hardware aisle ). Now I’m using polymer, all kinds of beads and making assemblages from vintage bits, and am constantly looking for more inspiration. This collection will keep me locked in my room, totally absorbed for a long time and then endless marathons of jewelry-making bliss.

This fun and exciting bundle of books would be perfect for me! I am currently a BFA student and my focus is in metalsmithing. I love being inspired by nature and the surrounding world. Creating beauty with my bare hands is what I do best. These books would really help broaden my horizons and help me learn some new tricks that I could add to my metalsmithing techniques. I think that my ability to create beautiful jewelry would grow from these books. I someday hope to get into SUNY New Paltz to achieve getting  my MFA in Metalsmithing and then to later become a Professor in teaching Fine Art Jewelry and Metalsmithing. These books would be traveling everywhere with me and I would be able to share them with whom ever crosses paths with me in the art world and also whom ever I end up teaching! Fingers are crossed!

As a jewelry teacher at the Des Moines Art Center, this would be a fabulous collection for my students.  What do I like about making jewelry?  It’s a lifelong learning, and I don’t think any one person can be expert at all of its nuances.  These books would help anyone on the path.

Even if I do not get the books  [ and probably that will be the case...since I never win anything]…I am soooooo happy I found your FB page with such a great information, photos and inspirations.

I’m self taught and would love to load up my bookcases with these wonderful books. I work in polymer, but love experimenting with so many other materials and this would provide me with hours and hours of inspiration.

I am floored by such a generous giveaway!  I love to make jewelry among many other crafts, and  combining multiple crafts with jewelry is my favorite.  I have always been the type to look at something, especially something expensive, and say I can make that!  I get such satisfaction out of creating things, especially now that I’ve had to retire my nursing job because of Multiple Sclerosis.  But the bright side means that I can spend more time creating, not to mention time to give back by donating some of the proceeds to the M.S. society.  These books are fabulous, I love anything from Lark Books!  Having them in my library would greatly expand by abilities, and teach me new techniques.  Any double copies, and there would be a few, I can use as a “pay it forward’, and give as giveaways myself!

Making jewelry and wearing it is a way to express my individuality and a way to broadcast art to everyone I meet.

I like creating jewelry that is unique. I enjoy making work that is unlike any commercial jewelry.

I already use some of these books in my classroom.  Students enjoy the”how to” book formats of many of these books, which make the processes logical and approachable.  My favorites are The Penland Book of Jewelry and The New Jewelry; I utilize them for both explaining technique and for exposing students to various artistic aesthetics.

I like making jewelry unlike anyone else’s and experimenting with different materials.

What I like best about making wearable art is: unlike painters who hang their work in a gallery we are able to display our work everywhere.

I don’t  have a lot of jewelry, but everything I have and wear connects me to a person or event in my life that lives in that piece and generates precious memories. Today I am wearing a necklace that belonged to my grandmother whom I never knew. I am a great grandmother and I am making jewelry for my family today that I hope will connect me to them far into the future, long after I am also only a memory.

Making jewelry “saved my life”.  I became disabled and had to stop working and slipped into a deep depression.  One day I picked up a simple jewelry making kit and after I finished it I was hooked. In the process of learning and practicing jewelry making some of my depression was lifted.  So I would love to win and continue my education.
