Have you ever taken a craft class? Yes? Then you know there’s something magical about learning something new, hearing about someone else’s creative process, and putting energy into your own creative pursuits. And if not, here’s your chance!

Now through May 23rd, you can enter to win a free class with the fine folks at Craftsy! They have all kinds of online crafty classes – knitting, crochet, sewing, cake decorating – and they’re offering a fabulous new quilting class all about foundation piecing: Precision Piecing taught by award-winning quilter Norah McMeeking. In a series of 9 HD video lessons, you’ll learn the basic techniques, tips, troubleshooting, and more. You can take the class on your own time and revisit it again and again for tips and hints along the way. And best of all: you don’t have to lug your sewing machine and supplies anywhere! Set up in your own space and learn at your own pace.

Wee Felt Worlds caption contest, part 2!

Wee Felt WorldsIf a picture is worth a thousand words, our best guestimates indicate that a felted scene is worth 142,763 extremely clever, extremely cute words. This week, we’d like you to imagine what creative things this felty scene can say by creating the perfect caption for it. It’s clear this bear pair is having a beary good time…. so join the fun! Up for grabs to one random winner: a prize pack of felt roving and a copy of Wee Felt Worlds.

Craft It Forward: a Quilt It with Love book giveaway!

We’ve noticed that it’s sometimes easier to keep new years’ resolutions when you’ve made the commitment with someone else. We’ve also found that it’s more fun crafting as a group (here on the needlearts teams, we’re learning to needle felt and crochet together). And how about the best of both worlds: keep your crafty resolutions intact and enjoy some group creativity. This week, we’re picking one lucky winner to receive four copies of Quilt It with Love – one to keep and three to give away. This year, did you make a resolution to better yourself? Maybe you’re planning to exercise more, to indulge less (oh, sweet holiday goodies!), to learn a new craft, or to volunteer more. As always, we’re here to help! Kick-start your charity crafting resolution with Project Linus, an amazing organization that provides handmade quilts and blankets to children who are sick, traumatized, or otherwise in need. There are lots of ways to get involved. You can donate blankets, your time, your energy, and more.

Mother’s Day is just around the corner on May 13. My mom loves flamingos so I’m usually in the throws of making something flamingo-themed – that’s a lot of pink and lime green, my friends! And almost being a new mom myself really has me in the spirit this year.
