This Dog’s Life with Ira G

From Asheville, North Carolina, it’s This Dog’s Life. I’m Ira G. Each FRIDAY, of course, I pick a theme and present a story around that theme.

This week’s story: I Heart Camping! Don’t you? I mean: Sleeping under the stars; catching bugs; eating sausage scraps from a cast-iron pan. What’s not to love?

Last weekend, I got to check out Linville Gorge (the Grand Canyon of the Carolinas) with my mom and her friends Catie and Rebecca. Thanks for the sausage, ladies!

    I went camping on the Potomac once and saw a baby fox. It was pretty awesome. And there were lots of geese for dogs to chase.

    If I come to New York will you take me to Nathans? I've heard their hot dogs are world famous. And maybe later we can ride the old Coney Island roller coaster if you promise to hold me tight.

    Of course we can go to Nathans, Ira! (And yes, they ARE the best hot dogs.) But as for going on the Cyclone…well, I'll have to think about that. Hmmmm.

    Ira, you should visit Algonquin Park in Ontario! You can chat with deer, bears, coyotes and owls in our great provincial park, and the scenery is delightful!

    As to camping… my idea of 'roughing it' is to visit Deerhurst Inn. Living in a tent is beyond me — 'cause if you want the camping experience, you can roll in dirt and sleep in your garage overnight. <Cheshire Cat grin>
