FOCUS Series Giveaway

May 16, 2011, 11:53 am  Posted by Nicole McConville

In recent years, the availability of affordable, high quality, take-with-you-everywhere digital cameras has turned nearly everyone into a budding photographer. And with versatile hosting and sharing sites such as Flickr literally at our fingertips, it is now easier than ever to tap into a massive community of other image enthusiasts.

As an avid amateur photographer myself, I was thrilled when Lark launched the FOCUS series just over a year ago. Each book in this series shines a spotlight on one popular photographic meme, highlighting the variety in which various people interpret that theme. Every unique photograph begins with a point of view, and these books so beautifully demonstrate that each of us look at the world with a different perspective. Jam-packed with hundreds of photos from photographers around the world, each of these books is a testament to the vast richness of our world and the endless ways it can be captured through the lens of a camera.

To celebrate the publication of the newest book in the series, FOCUS: Letters, and to inspire you to look at your world with new photo-hungry eyes, we are hosting a giveaway of the entire FOCUS series. That’s right, one lucky winner will receive the full collection of all four books: Love, Passages, Found Faces, and Letters. To be entered for a chance to win, leave a comment on this post by 9 p.m EDT on Monday, May 23. Any comment will do, but we’d love to hear what your favorite photography subject matter is. One winner will be selected at random and contacted on Tuesday, May 24. Click here for the official rules. This giveaway is closed. We will be announcing the winner here very soon!

I love the random moments in life for pictures. A laugh, a reflection in a window a puddle. I love shots of the kids jumping also. This series looks fantastic!

  • Terri Stegmiller

Oh good golly!  These books look like fun and I’m betting full of inspiration.

I would love to win these – what great coffee table material!  I am a very novice photographer but love to take pictures of my dog and up close and personal pictures of nature.

  • Muireann

What a great prize! I’d love to win; my husband has a great camera which I’m slowly learning to use, this would be a great help. I love taking photos of animals and plants, spring flowers especially. Thanks for the chance to win!

  • Quilter

This is a wonderful prize! i’d be thrilled to win. :) years ago (back in the plain-old-slr days) I took photography courses. Composition rules haven’t changed, of course, but the things your gadget/camera will do certainly have!

Woo!  I would absolutely love to win these!  I thought Faces would be my favorite, but I’m really drawn to the Love cover.

  • Michelle G.

(I love my copy of “Passages”!) enthusiastic iphone photographer here, hoping to graduate to a camera-camera soon. favorite subjects — trees, flowers, clouds/skies. love human portraiture, too, but too shy to shoot much of it. :)

  • Edie

I am learning to photograph my dogs! Hard to catch them on their eye level without them moving in to lick the camera lense….

  • Wordygirl

My favorite subjects are the ones closest to me–figuratively and literally.  Our dogs, cats, and chickens all “star” in my photos.

  • Gail

Natural, candid photos are my favorite.

  • sewlindaann

I lose track of time when I’m trying to play with close ups of flowers and leaves, but my very favorite are night time photos like the lamp post in a rain or snow and the different play on lights that happen. I just play with the functions because I haven’t learned technically about them YET, but I’ve gotten some really cool shots.

  • Daniell

    I really love candid portraiture.

  • BigC

Thanks for the opportunity to win a great prize. I’ve been intrigued lately with things that are abandoned (for their esthetic qualities).

  • Sharlyngp

What great inspiration for all kinds of projects!  Count me in for the give-a-way!

These are great books, I’d be happy to win one, let alone all four. There are so many things to enjoy in photography–I love the unexpected. Found faces are cute, but as a creativity coach, I am drawn to those wonderful, mysterious passages.

I love seeing photographs of life in motion.  Catching the perfect shot of a moving person or animal is always breathtaking!

  • chinguri

    … i LIKE found faces!

  • Denise

    Really love night photography.

  • Marmar16

I love children’s faces when they are captivated by something else and unaware that a picture is being taken …. My favorite picture is of my mother with my son, then 3 years old, looking at a sparkler at dusk …. the images are soft-focused and the light from the sparkler lights up and reflects off their faces …. you can feel the innocence and wonder just by looking at this picture …. and taken by a very novice, working mom!!!   I would LOVE to own these books!!!   Thank you!!!!

what a beautiful idea, and what a source of inspiration … the book covers say a lot already … I didn’t realise how strong a theme ‘passages’ could be until I saw this post …. adn I love ‘found faces’  … one more passage: Grand Case,St Martin, French Carribean a few weeks ago

  • Grace

  • Heather

I’m really intrigued by the Passages cover…I wonder what’s behind all those doors and what adventures await you around every corner!

My favorite subjects would be colorful nature scenes and really ‘messed up’ signs in front of businesses, etc.  Some of them have hilarious (unintentional) misspellings!  ;)

  • Phyllis

With the advent of cell phone cameras, I find myself taking tons of pictures of wildflowers and nature, as I live in a rural area.  Looks like a great series of books!

  • Reece P

With a degree in photography from the “film era” it was very hard to make the transition to digital.  However, that being said once I took the leap forward I haven’t really looked back.  Having children has really helped that.  It’s so great to see that perfect smile right away.

  • debpaint16

These books look Amazing!!!  I am so thrilled to have the chance to win, Thank You!!debpaint16@aol.com

Besides my daughter, I like candid shots, nature, scenery, and unusual/unique objects.

This giveaway is an awesome idea and I’d be thrilled to win!  Each book in this series is incredible.  Photography is such a gentle method of expressing oneself ; I love walking around the neighborhood and finding hidden patterns and textures in leaves and petals that I photograph.

  • Catherine Anderson

These books are inspirational and inspire one to pick up a camera and go looking at the world in a new way.  Windows are some of my favorite images – they can be portals into a new world.

  • http://profiles.google.com/amandaknpp Mandy Knapp

‘Love’ is my favorite one, but I love them all!!

  • Kathleen Wheeler

Portals or doors are my favorite.  Maybe because I like wood, stone and metal; rust, decay of any kind; and then of course the crazy colors that some doors are painted.

  • Carolyndebion63

I just ran across this series yesterday on Amazon and I am quite excited about it. When my kids were very, very little up until their current adult selves, they have always enjoyed these kind of ooks so I think they will appeal to a large audience. I know I will enjoy them myself as it always surprises me how much I overlook in life.
