It’s beginning to look a lot like … January.

Which is good, because that means less time before a new book from Diane Fitzgerald releases this spring: Diane Fitzgerald’s Favorite Beading Projects: Designs from Stringing to Beadweaving is a March 2012 book eagerly anticipated by beaders everywhere. The book includes two dozen of Diane’s very favorite — and previously unpublished — designs. Her selections reflect the breadth of her career and so include many projects for both new and advanced beaders.

January also means beautiful nighttime snowfalls, right? But it’s been unseasonably warm in many places this winter. (And thank goodness for that, by the way.) But never fear: Diane Fitzgerald comes to the rescue, as always, sending a little snowy magic from her home in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in the form of a special preview from Diane Fitzgerald’s Favorite Beading Projects. Click here for a PDF of Midnight Snowflakes, a beautiful necklace project design from the book.

And, while we’re at it, here is a sampling of a half-dozen photos of designs from the book, just to whet your appetite. Enjoy the project and pics while you stay warm by the fire.

Diane Fitzgerald is one of the world’s best-selling beadwork designers, teachers, and authors. Her two most recent books have happily been Lark Jewelry & Beading titles: Diane Fitzgerald’s Shaped Beadwork, the seminal, best-selling book that launched Lark’s Beadweaving Master Class series, and the new 2012 book Diane Fitzgerald’s Favorite Beading Projects: Designs from Stringing to Beadweaving, a very different kind of book with fun projects for all skill levels spanning the range of Diane’s beading and teaching career. (And, yes, as so many people have asked and demanded, a new book of advanced shaped beadwork designs and projects is in the works!)

Diane Fitzgerald’s Favorite Beading Projects: Designs from Stringing to Beadweaving is the brand new book from one of the world’s most popular beading designers and authors. It presents 25 beading projects for a range of skill levels and with a range of techniques. Everyone will find a lot to love in this book, from new beaders to very experienced ones! Here’s how Jennifer VanBenschoten described the book last week in a review on her great VanBeads blog Jewelry, Art and Life:

“These projects represent the very best of Diane’s extensive technical knowledge when it comes to crafting beaded jewelry. There are knotting projects, beadweaving projects, and assemblage projects that use some basic wire skills to create. Not all of the projects are technically challenging for an advanced beader, but they are most inspiring. In the Buddhist tradition of getting back to a ‘beginner’s mind,’ some of these projects will provide a wonderful and welcome break when you just want to bead something beautiful. If you want to expand your general jewelry-making skills to include work with fibers, fabric, and knotting, this is the book for you. Diane has really allowed herself to develop as an artist over the course of her career, and this book is a delightful compilation of all the skills and techniques she has mastered along the way. For any serious bead artist looking for something new to try, Diane Fitzgerald’s Favorite Beading Projects will provide hours of enjoyable beading projects.”

You can preview the book at two other blog posts: download a PDF of the Fortune Teller Beads necklace project from the book here AND see a preview of photos of projects in the book and download a PDF of the beautiful Midnight Snowflakes necklace project here.

We’re giving away a signed copy of Diane Fitzgerald’s Favorite Beading Projects paired with a signed copy of Diane’s classic book Diane Fitzgerald’s Shaped Beadwork: Dimensional Jewelry with Peyote Stitch, which was the best-selling first book released in Lark Jewelry & Beading’s Beadweaving Master Class series.

Diane Fitzgerald

How can you enter for a chance to win the pair of two outstanding books from Diane? Easy: Leave a comment on this blog post by 9 p.m. EST on Wednesday, March 7. Any comment counts, but in the spirit of some recent posts from my colleague Nathalie Mornu, it would be great if you’d tell us which bead store is your favorite — and what makes it so good.

One winner will be selected at random and announced on Monday, March 12. Click here for the official rules. Thank you for being a part of the Lark Jewelry & Beading community, and please connect with Lark Jewelry & Beading on Facebook.

UPDATE: Congratulations to Twyla Harbick of Springfield, Oregon, the randomly selected winner of this giveaway. Our sincere appreciation to everyone who participated. Thank you for being a part of our community. If you like these books or have feedback about them, please let us know!

*********************

We’re celebrating the release of the newest book in the Beadweaving Master Class series: the spectacular Jill Wiseman’s Beautiful Beaded Ropes, a September 2012 release and already a No. 1 bestseller among beading books.

Here’s how we celebrate around here: We give things away. So it makes sense to me to give away a COMPLETE SET of the Beadweaving Master Class books. But how can I make it special for people who already have some or all the books? Hmm. Well, how about this: All the books are signed by their respective authors.

The Beadweaving Master Class books being given away are:
Diane Fitzgerald’s Shaped Beadwork (signed by Diane)
Marcia DeCoster’s Beaded Opulence (signed by Marcia)
Laura McCabe’s Embellished Beadweaving (signed by Laura)
Sherry Serafini’s Sensational Bead Embroidery (signed by Sherry)
Maggie Meister’s Classical Elegance (signed by Maggie)
Rachel Nelson-Smith’s Bead Riffs (signed by Rachel)
Japanese Beadwork with Sonoko Nozue (signed by Sonoko)
Sabine Lippert’s Beaded Fantasies (signed by Sabine)
Jill Wiseman’s Beautiful Beaded Ropes (signed by, you guessed it, Jill)

And, just so the lucky winner doesn’t feel like she or he is missing out on anything, I’m throwing in copies (unsigned) of three wonderful gallery books, filled with photographs of gorgeous beadwork:
Showcase 500 Beaded Jewelry
Masters: Beadweaving
500 Beaded Objects

That’s a dozen books! As I mentioned, we realize that if you’re interested in this giveaway you might already have some of these creative-juice-stirring books in your home or studio. No worries: Enter anyway for fabulous holiday gift-giving opportunities. Or you can donate the books to your local bead society or library.

Also, people tell me sometimes they get frustrated: they enter a giveaway, forget to check who the winner is so the giveaway never really “closes” for them, and then later realize they’d forgotten to buy a book they really wanted. Easy solution: Click through and wishlist the books you’re interested in right now. If you don’t happen to win, you’re giving yourself a reminder. And if you do happen to win, you’re all set already!

How can you enter for a chance to win the set of 12 books? Leave a comment on this blog post by 9 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, October 17. Any comment counts as an entry, but I encourage you to write about what you see as the most exciting trend in beading or jewelry these days. That will be fun!

One winner will be selected at random and announced on October 24. Please “Like” the Lark Jewelry & Beading page on Facebook to be alerted to free projects and giveaways and to see digital pics of many fabulous jewelry and beading creations. You can click here for the official rules. And good luck!

UPDATE: Congratulations to Traci Staves of Whitefish, Montana, the randomly selected winner of this giveaway. Our thanks to everyone who participated! ~ Ray

______________

I just sat down to write this blog post, a giveaway of a big set of a dozen bead books to celebrate the release of Sabine Lippert’s Beaded Fantasies, and happened to notice Lark Jewelry & Beading’s two Beadweaving Master Class books released this spring, Sabine’s book and Japanese Beadwork with Sonoko Nozue, are the No. 1 and 2 books at this hour in the Jewelry category on Amazon. (See image below and, hey, look at what’s No. 3!) So, thank you for your support of the books — I hope you love them — and we’ve really got something to celebrate here!

Here’s how I like to celebrate: I’m giving away a complete set of the Beadweaving Master Class books, plus a few other bead books for good measure. Some of the books are signed by their authors, too.

Here’s the list. The Beadweaving Master Class books included are:
Sabine Lippert’s Beaded Fantasies
Japanese Beadwork with Sonoko Nozue
Sherry Serafini’s Sensational Bead Embroidery
Rachel Nelson-Smith’s Bead Riffs (signed by Rachel)
Maggie Meister’s Classical Elegance (signed by Maggie)
Laura McCabe’s Embellished Beadweaving (signed by Laura)
Marcia DeCoster’s Beaded Opulence (signed by Marcia)
Diane Fitzgerald’s Shaped Beadwork (signed by Diane)

PLUS we’re giving away a few more great beading titles:
Making Wire & Bead Jewelry by Janice Berkebile and Tracy Stanley
Diane Fitzgerald’s Favorite Beading Projects (signed by Diane)
Dimensional Bead Embroidery (signed by Jamie Cloud Eakin)
And not exactly the same kind of thing but too much fun to leave out:
Creating Glass Beads (signed by Jeri Warhaftig)

So, two things: First, yes, you might have bought some of the books already. No worries: Enter anyway for fabulous gift-giving opportunities or to donate those books to your local bead society or library.

Second, people tell me sometimes they get frustrated: they enter a giveaway, forget to check who the winner is so the giveaway never really “closes” for them, and then later realize they’d forgotten to buy a book they really wanted. Easy solution: Click through and wishlist the books you’re interested in right now. If you don’t happen to win, you’re giving yourself a reminder. And if you do win, you’re already set!

How can you enter for a chance to win the set of 12 books? Leave a comment on this blog post by 9 p.m. EST on Wednesday, April 25. Any comment works, but if you’d tell us who your very favorite bead artists and designers are, that’ll be an awfully fun and interesting set of comments for everyone to read through.

One winner will be selected at random and announced on the Lark Jewelry & Beading Facebook page on Monday, April 30, so please click through and “Like” the page. Also, you can click here for the official rules.

Thank you for being a part of the Lark Jewelry & Beading community, and please be sure to check out and follow our new and fast-growing Pinterest boards at Pinterest.com/LarkJewelry.
